Summer Internship FAQ 2021
The Summer 2021 Internship Programme is open to candidates based in the UK. We will welcome applicants outside of the UK for the Winter Internship Programme as remote artists.
What roles are available for the Summer Internships?
There are four roles available this Summer:
Will they be remote or in-studio?
All eligible candidates will need to be located in the UK for the Summer Internships - our Winter Internships will be remote and open to applicants outside of the UK.
We hope that the summer interns may be able to work in the studio 2-3 days a week, but we will follow government advice and guidelines, and if necessary they will be remote.
How long will they last & when are they?
We will welcome interns from mid July to August across 6-8 weeks and will work out exact dates with individual candidates once they have been selected.
What experience do I need / who are you open to?
It is ideal for those who have zero professional experience but have entry level knowledge, such as those in 2nd year of University, who are chomping-at-the-bit to gain industry experience. These internships are also open to talented artists (over the age of 16), who have a real passion for animation and can provide examples of work they have created.
Are they paid?
Each intern will be paid the London Living Wage of £405 a week.
What exactly are you looking for in a showreel for 3D Animation?
Specifically for 3D Animation, we’re looking for basic understanding of posing, timing, spacing, body mechanics and acting/performance. For an intern reel, specifically, we’re not expecting to see all of these factors as it comes with experience, but if you are able to demonstrate some of these in your reel as examples, that would be great. Remember to add what you are responsible for, and what software you used.
What software is required for the Lighting and Compositing Internship position?
Maya & Nuke are required for the role but any experience in Arnold or Redshift is a bonus!
What are you recruitment looking for in a Surfacing showreel?
Basic:
Do non-native speakers have to pass an exam to certify English level?
No, this is why we have interviews. However Blue Zoo is an English-speaking studio based in the UK so a certain level of fluency in English is essential to work effectively.
What sort of general questions would likely be asked in the internship interview process?
Some of the questions that might be asked could be
Will there be a chance for Storyboarding Internships in winter?
We’d like to think so! It’s a very popular department, which we hire non-stop, so where there is the possibility, we’d like to host a storyboard internship later this year.
Where can I find a recording of the internship webinar?
You can watch the internship webinar recording on the Blue Zoo Vimeo.
Does my CV need to be 1 page? Do I need to write a cover letter?
No more than 2 pages - less is more. Always ensure your CV is tailored to the role you are applying for - so if its only 1 page that is also acceptable - we appreciate you may not have the experience, and that’s what makes you suitable for being considered for the role!
No need to include a cover letter for an artist role, a showreel will speak for your work better.
